RYA DAY SKIPPER DELUXE
The RYA Day Skipper Course is intended to teach pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boat handling up to the standard required to skipper a small cruising yacht safely by day. Our Deluxe version adds the experience of living aboard a luxury yacht and practising your new skills aboard a larger vessel. This is the course for anyone who may be thinking of longer distance cruising.

From €1400 per person.
Unique to Solaris, this course is designed to give you experience in handling a larger sailing yacht, but not before you’ve mastered the techniques on a smaller boat!
The first 5 days are spent covering the Day Skipper course on a typical 34ft sailing yacht. Preparing the boat for sea, setting and reefing sails, man overboard, close quarters maneuvering and other elements of course content best learned on a smaller vessel.
After you have completed your DS course, you will spend an extra two (or more) days aboard our Swan 57, “Lady Jomo.” Aboard Lady Jomo, you will get a broader perspective, with different systems, reefing, line positions etc along with a more complete cruising experience – and obviously much more comfort. Are you wondering what sort of yacht you should choose to go long term cruising? What equipment will you need? What can you do without? Lady Jomo is “a lot of boat” for Jo and Monique to handle together. She is also quite “manual,” in terms of modern systems (no bow thruster, roller furling main, etc). So come and live the dream and get your plans into focus!
We head off, up the coast or across to another island, in a true, offshore yacht, with real comfort and effortless speed. We arrive in a new port, or a secluded anchorage, sometimes after dark. You will enjoy convivial dinners around the large cockpit table before heading to bed in an air conditioned cabin. You will learn how to launch, drive and recover a tender, so you can stretch your legs ashore or buy some fresh bread. You can swim, snorkel, do yoga or help out in the galley. Our purpose is to give you a better idea of real cruising and inspire your next sailing adventure.
