The Solaris Team

Pippa Turton
RYA YMI Chief Instructor

Pippa has been sailing extensively since childhood, crossing the Atlantic in both directions, sailing from Australia to South Africa, as well as several other Offshore adventures! Working in South Devon, cruising the South Coast of the UK and across to Northern France on a regular basis, Pippa has huge experience from the skipper down to even the cook! Volunteering with Youth Sail Training associations, primarily the Ocean Youth Trust, and more recently the National Sailing Academy of Antigua she particularly enjoys teaching young people and encouraging them to get involved in the sport at all different levels. Pippa teaches several disciplines in our RYA Sail Cruising Scheme up to Yachtmaster Ocean with special emphasis on our shore based courses. There is truly no one more qualified to help you become a confident safe and knowledgeable sailor.

Jo Parkinson
RYA Cruising Instructor

Jo grew up in Guernsey, in the Channel Islands, one of the more demanding places to sail in the world. After qualifying as RYA Yachtmaster Ocean in 1991 (at an extremely young age, obviously), he sailed his 34ft yacht to Australia with no electronic navigational aids. In Sydney, he became chief instructor at the Pacific Sailing School at the prestigious Cruising Yacht Club Of Australia, the home of the Sydney to Hobart Race. He trained sailing instructors and designed programs to fast track potential race crew through spinnaker and racing courses in J24 yachts. After a career in finance, Jo is once again pursuing his passion, together with his wonderful wife, Monique, aboard “Lady Jomo,” their classic Swan 57, to show you too the Joy of Missing Out!

Dennis Evans
RYA Cruising Instructor

Dennis has been with Solaris for 12 years and has a loyal following of past students who constantly seek him out for more training. Dennis started sailing as a youngster in East Anglia and has since covered over 50,000 miles including seven Transatlantic crossings to name a few. In fact he’s just delivered a yacht to the Caribbean for another ex Solaris student. Dennis holds a Yachtmaster Ocean for sail and motor.

Anton Fitzpatrick
RYA Cruising Instructor

Anton is an RYA Yachtmaster Offshore with Cruising instructor and commercial endorsements, and has trained to teach boatbuilding in adult education. He did his first sailing course in 1981, and has been sailing up and down the Atlantic coast of Europe, the Caribbean, and Mediterranean since then. Having trained as a boat builder, sailing and boats are a major part of his DNA. With a passion for teaching both sailing and boat building skills ‘lest they become forgot’. He has a unique ability to pass on skills without you realising you are learning, and strongly believes that it is possible to gain with no pain.

Monique Parkinson

Monique enjoyed a peripatetic childhood and has never been able to sit still since!  It was only when she met her husband Jo she discovered her love of sailing. Together on their 34 ft yacht they explored the world ending up in Australia where they settled for 22 years.   On top of bringing up their two children Monique ran her own import business enabling her to still travel and expand her endless network of friends. You will find Monique’s love of people and positive attitude a great help in organising your trip to Mallorca. When not in the Solaris office Monique is more often than not on board “Lady Jomo” where she relishes her role of Admiral!
